Tip #6: If you need a taxi, make sure you’re at an official taxi stand.
In case no one has told you (and we’re the first), there are people in this world who get by on scamming others. Tourists are perceived as an especially easy group to scam. They’re probably not that familiar with their surroundings, cultural customs, and protocols. Once upon a time, a certain someone (don’t look at me) took a taxi after being approached by an official-looking gentleman at a luggage carousel in Italy and was charged around $400 US dollars for the ride because he was a scammer. Pretty steep, but it can and does happen all around the world.
Make sure you’re standing at an official taxi stand when requesting a taxi. Confirm as many details about pricing as you can with your driver, never feeding them the information.
